Road upgrade at Port of Mackay

Civil company RPQ Mackay and Boral Resources have been awarded construction contracts for a roadworks package for the Port of Mackay.

North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation is investing $4 million in the project, which is expected to support about 80 jobs.

NQBP said five roads within and outside the port secure area would be resurfaced as part of the project.

These include Ken White Ave, George Bell Dr, and Hamilton Dr (inside the port) and Edmund Casey Dr and Spiller Ave (outside the port).

The Port of Mackay played a pivotal role as a leading service centre for agricultural and mining industries and had experienced record trade growth in recent years, NQBP chief executive officer Brendan Webb said.

The majority of works would occur at night to minimise impacts, he said.

“Some road users may experience changed road conditions during the project,” Mr Webb said.

“This includes the general public who may use Spiller Ave and/or Edmund Casey Dr to access North Wall beach.

“However, access to our port businesses and North Wall beach will be maintained during construction.”

Weather permitting, works are planned to begin this week with an end-date in August 2024.
